Young Bermuda Pacers athletes fly out to Toronto

Bermuda Pacers Track Club will be looking to do the island proud in the 2024 Flying Angels International Track and Field Championships in Toronto.

The club are being represented this week by a team of 39 athletes, ranging in ages from 8 to 16, and will compete in 94 individual events and 8 relay events.

Among the local contingent are Miles Outerbridge, Jaeda Grant, Lashae Jones and Azari Jones, who all represented Bermuda at the Carifta Games in Grenada in March.

Montverde Academy student Outerbridge, the oldest athlete on the team, will compete in the 15-16 boys 100 and 200 metres along with team-mates Surii Russell, Aaron Lugo and Tobiah Goodchild.

Grant will lead the 15-16 girls’ team in the 800, 1,500 and 3,000 metres and will be accompanied by team-mates Hannah Dill and Lashae and Azari Jones.

Zakhya Scott and Zyari Lawrence, recent Individual champions in the BSSF Middle School Track and Field Championships, are competing in the 13-14 girls division, and newcomers Evan Andrade and Nasir Johnson in the 13-14 boys division. The foursome are facing a hectic schedule as they are competing in the 100, 200, 400 800,1,500 and 3,000 metres events.

Sukanya Jobson and Jasmine Reid Rubaine are among ten athletes representing the club in the 11-12 girls division and will compete in events ranging from the 100 metres to high jump.

The 11-12 boys’ team will be led by Denton Hurdle Award winner Jemani Scott and includes team-mates Paz Lightbourne- Francis, Ajani Trott and distance specialist Ronan Davidge.

Tamae Davis and Ava Clarke are competing in the 9-10 girls’ age group in events ranging from the 100 metres to the 1,200 metres.

Giselle Reid Rubaine, the youngest member of the team, is competing in the 8 and under girls division in the 100, 200, 800 metres and long jump.

The championships are being hosted by the Flying Angels Track and Field Academy and are taking place at York University’s Track and Field Centre in Toronto from Friday to Sunday.

Bermuda Pacers Track Club athletes have departed the island today and will be accompanied by club executive members, coaches and several parents.
