David Burt has congratulated Sir Keir Starmer, the new British prime minister, on his landslide General Election victory on Thursday.

The Premier said: “I have written to the new prime minister to congratulate him on his election victory and reiterated the Government of Bermuda's commitment to building relationships with the new UK Government.

“There will no doubt be changes in policy and personnel and I look forward to working with the new Foreign Secretary and a new Minister for the Overseas Territories."

Sir Keir led the Labour Party to a resounding victory, ousting Rishi Sunak, who said he would resign as leader for the Conservative Party.

The result brings to an end 14 years of Conservative rule.

In his first speech as prime minister, Sir Keir pledged to put the country before the party.
