Adam Perry crowned Bermuda Match Play Champion

Third time proved to be a charm for Adam Perry, who came from behind to capture a maiden Bermuda Match Play Championship title at Port Royal Golf Course on Sunday.

Having twice stumbled in the semi-final in previous years, the second seed would not be denied this time around as he rallied down the home stretch to beat rival Eric West 1up in an exciting final played in fabulous conditions at the Southampton course.

West was seemingly in control when three up through eleven holes. However, it was game on when Perry chipped in for birdie from the back of Port Royal’s signature 16th green to draw even and he then surged ahead after West bogeyed the next hole.

Perry, 21, then sealed the win on the final hole after getting up and down to save par as West missed a six-foot birdie putt to extend the match.

“This is my first time winning it and feels really good,” Perry told The Royal Gazette.

“I’ve won the Stroke Play Championship before but I’ve only made it to the semi-final before this. I got knocked out by Jarryd [Dillas] last year and I think Will [Haddrell] the year before.

“It was a really good match. I had a good time out there and it was really a lot of fun.”

West made no excuses after throwing away a big lead on the back nine.

“I didn’t play well enough to win this afternoon, but that’s golf,” he said.

“Adam made the clutch shots down the stretch, holing out on 16 and getting up and down from long left on 18.

“It was a great win for Adam and I’m super happy for him.”

Perry advanced to the final after seeing off Kenny Leseur 5 and 3 in his semi-final, while West required extra holes to get past defending champion, ten-times winner Dillas.

“Jarryd is a great player and I expected a tough match,” added former Tour de las Américas player West.

“It was a battle of attrition and it was just a matter of playing the second play-off hole slightly better than he did.”

Chris Parry (78) won the consolation stroke play division by one shot over rival Michael Kenny (79).
