Expectations are high for Carifta athletes Jaeda Grant, Azari Jones and Lashee Jones who are among the 22 members of Bermuda Pacers Track Club to compete in North Carolina this weekend.

Grant and Azari Jones are competing at the Russell E Blunt East Coast Invitational in the 15-16 girls division in the 800, 1,500 and 3,000 metres with Lashee Jones racing in the 100 and 200 metres.

Tobiah Goodchild and Surii Russell will represent the local team in the 15-16 boys age group, with the former taking in the 800 and 1500 metres and Russell in the 400 and 800 metres.

The 13-14 boys’ team will be led by Zydon Lightbourne -Furbert, the Bermuda School Sport Federation Track and Field Champion, who is making his international debut in the 100, 200 and 400 metres.

He will be joined in the same age group by Nazir Johnson, who is competing in the 400 and 800 metres and long jump.

Flying the team’s banner in the 13-14 girl’s division are Zakhya Scott, Zyari Lawrence, Leilani Peters and Riana Robinson.

Scott and Lawrence are both competing in the 100 and 200 metres, Peters in the 200 and 400 metres and Robinson in the 800, 1500 and 3000 metres. The foursome will also join forces for the 4 x 400 metres relay.

Representing Bermuda Pacers in the 11-12 girls division are Leydi Raynor, Amaya Davis, Alea Rochester, Ava St Luce, Mylah DeSilva, Jasmine Reid Rubaine and Sukanya Jobson.

Raynor, Davis and Rochester are all competing in the 100 and 200 metres, St Luce in the 100 metres and high jump, DeSilva and Rubaine in the 200 and 400 metres and Jobson in the 400, 800 and long jump.

Paz Lightbourne- Francis is the only athlete representing the local team in the 11-12 boys’ 100 and 200 metres and long jump and Aalriah Daniels will race in the 9-10 girls’ 100 and 200 metres and long jump.

Theo Smith and Giselle Reid Rubaine are also the only athletes representing Bermuda Pacers in the 8 and under boys and girls age group in the 100 and 200 metres and long jump.

Several team members impressed recently at the Flying Angels International Track and Field Championships in Toronto, in which they earned 25 medals

The upcoming Russell E Blunt East Coast Invitational features 1,000 athletes from across the United States, Canada and Caribbean and will be held at the Durham County Memorial Stadium from Friday until Sunday.

Bermuda Pacers’ athletes will be accompanied by head coach Cal Simons and coaching staff, club executives and parents.
