Family Centre launches Cup Match ribbon campaign

Family Centre’s tag day is next Wednesday

Somerset and St George’s supporters were urged to show their passion while supporting a charity dedicated to helping families on the island.

Family Centre this week launched its annual Cup Match tag day campaign, its largest fundraiser of the year, with the support of Clarien Bank.

The charity said this year’s campaign, to be held in memory of its late founder Martha Dismont, will help ensure the availability of counselling services and a variety of community outreach programmes.

Thania Redman, Family Centre relationship development director, said: “In the last few weeks Bermuda has experienced tragedies that affected us all.

“Family Centre is an available resource to families with children between the ages of 4 and 18 who may be experiencing challenges due to these recent events.

“These and other therapeutic services are provided at no cost to families due in part to the generosity of the community’s participation in fundraisers like tag day and the generosity of donors.”

Sandy De Silva, the charity’s executive director, added: “What is unique to Family Centre’s therapeutic counselling services and community outreach programmes is our wrap around, holistic approach to children and teens who are experiencing social and emotional challenges.”

A spokeswoman said: “Family Centre’s Cup Match ribbons represent the friendly rivalry among the island’s two Cup Match cricket teams, St George’s and Somerset.

“Your Cup Match ribbon promotes your support of your favourite team and keeps the Cup Match spirit alive while supporting the nurture and care for children and families in Bermuda.”

Ribbons are available now at retailers across the island and the campaign will continue until the eve of Cup Match with the Family Centre hosting its annual tag day on July 31.

Michael DeCouto, an executive vice-president at Clarien Bank, said the bank was proud to continue to stand beside Family Centre and that the annual fundraiser was an event that “embodies the spirit of community and unity so vital to the heart of Bermuda”.

He said: “This partnership has always been more than just a sponsorship.

“It's a commitment to the wellbeing of our island's children and their families in remembrance of Martha Dismont's legacy and in celebration of our island's rich traditions.

“We invite the whole community to join us in this year's Cup Match tag day by purchasing a ribbon, or simply spreading the word and play a role in a tradition that extends far beyond the cricket field.

“Whether you're donning a St George’s or Somerset ribbon, your participation signifies a win for Bermudian families, ensuring that the legacy of care and community support endures for generations to come.”

Hannah Collins de la Cruz, Family Centre’s fund development specialist and digital media manager, added: “The community plays a huge part in the success of Family Centre’s Cup Match tag day.

“It is through your purchase of our Cup Match ribbons and volunteering on tag day, that you impact the hope and healing of children and families in Bermuda.”
