Firm sought for Darrell’s Island bathroom renovations
The Government is looking for a contractor to assist with renovations to public restrooms on Darrell’s Island, according to a recent request for quotations.
The RFQ was published on the government procurement website.
Documents in the package laid out the scope of the project, which included demolishing and replacing partitions, installing new railings and counter tops, replacing wall and floor tiles, removing toilets, urinals and basins and installing new ones.
A pre-bid site visit, mandatory for applicants, will take place on August 6, and submissions must be received by the Ministry of Public Works by August 26.
A planning application for the project was submitted in 2022 and subsequently approved.
The application, submitted by Bermuda Home Renovations on behalf of the Ministry of Public Works, proposed the installation of a ramp to improve access to the bathrooms, along with the creation of a new accessible restroom with shower.
Existing men's and women’s showers in the building will also be reworked to create private shower stalls, and a new pump room and electrical room will be added to the building.
Darrell’s Island, located off Warwick in the Great Sound, was once the home of an air station until LF Wade International Airport was built.
It is now largely used for camping and picnics.
