Voice of Summer returns for Cup Match Classic

First Prev 1 2 Next Last

The “Voice of Summer” team returns to the screens as the official television broadcaster for the Annual Cup Match Classic 2024, taking place at the Somerset Cricket Club on Thursday and Friday.

Cricket enthusiasts can tune in live on Channel 82 as well as at The Royal Gazette website to catch every moment of the highly anticipated match between champions Somerset and challengers St George’s in Bermuda’s premier sports event.

First ball is at 10am both days, with the broadcast starting at 9am.

The Voice of Summer has been the heartbeat of cricket commentary and an integral part of Bermuda’s summer culture for more than 50 years. This legacy began with the legendary C.V. “Jim” Woolridge, the original “Voice of Summer”, and has been a consistent source of entertainment for Cup Match, which is in its 122nd year. Mr Woolridge’s dedication ensured that countless residents, including service and industry workers, frontline heroes and those unable to attend in person, could feel the thrill of every match on the radio.

Sean Tucker joined Mr Woolridge in 1984 and continues to uphold the “Voice of Summer” legacy. After Mr Woolridge’s retirement in 2013, Jason “Jugglin J” Ford became part of the team, contributing to its continued growth and strength. Veteran Cup Match and Bermuda cricketer Dean Minors joins the team once again to provide his colour, expertise and experience.

This year, the Voice of Summer, along with T&T Video Productions and Channel 82, will bring the match to television screens, a move that has been met with celebration and excitement by the entire community. In addition to the television broadcast, cricket fans locally and globally can benefit from the inclusion of an exclusive livestreaming platform through a partnership with The Royal Gazette, transforming the way they experience the game. For those preferring radio, the event will be simulcast on Hott 107.5 and Magic 102.7.

A heartfelt thanks is dedicated to Somerset Cricket Club and St George’s Cricket Club for their hard work and commitment to ensuring that Bermuda’s premier sporting event is hosted in spectacular surroundings.

The “Voice of Summer” stands as a trusted pillar in the community, dedicated to delivering unparalleled cricket commentary and ensuring that no fan misses a moment of the most anticipated event on the summer sporting and cultural calendar.

Join us as we continue to celebrate and share the passion, excitement and heritage of Bermuda's cricket legacy. Tune in to Channel 82, Hott 107.5, Magic 102.7 or royalgazette.com to be part of this historic event and experience the magic of Bermuda’s own Annual Cup Match Classic.
