Minister congratulates students on DWD scholarships
The economy and labour minister, Jason Hayward, has congratulated students who have been awarded the Department of Workforce Development’s 2024 scholarships.
“It is an honour and pleasure to recognise and congratulate all of you as the scholarship award recipients for 2024,” he said.
“Aligned with the Government’s pledge to support Bermuda’s youth, this scholarship award programme is one of many initiatives reflecting the Ministry of Economy and Labour’s commitment to providing funding for Bermudian students pursuing tertiary education both locally and abroad in high-demand occupations.”
The programme includes 26 overseas awards valued at up to $10,000 annually for up to four years, provided students maintain a minimum GPA of 2.7 (B-) per semester.
Local awards cover full tuition at Bermuda College, contingent on maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.67 (B-) per semester.
There were also nine technical vocational education training recipients each receiving funding valued at $5,000.
This year's recipients are furthering their studies in healthcare, finance, business management, technology, engineering, computer science, marine science and technology, biology and artificial intelligence.
The minister added: “The Government continues to ensure that adequate human and funding resources are available to assist our young people in pursuing their tertiary education and, just as importantly, returning home to Bermuda and contributing to the local workforce.
“These young men and women are the next generation of leaders.”
