The Government of Bermuda’s London Office warned Bermudians in the UK to exercise caution as public disorder spiked across Britain.

Xenophobic and anti-Muslim riots have spread across Britain of the past six days, damaging shops and injuring members of the public along with law enforcement.

Bermudians were urged to follow reliable news sources to stay up to date with information regarding the riots.

People should avoid known riot locations and refrain from engaging with rioters to minimise risks to personal safety.

Follow advisories from local authorities and contact law enforcement as soon as possible if in immediate danger.

Bermudians should also make sure their emergency contact numbers are readily available.

Finally, those in the UK should stay connected with other Bermudians and regularly check in with friends and family on the island.

A member of staff at the London Office said: “Please be assured that the Government of Bermuda London Office remains ready to support Bermudians in the UK with consular needs.

“If required, we encourage you to contact us directly via londonoffice@gov.bm.”

The unrest was sparked in response to a stabbing attack in Southport last week that killed three girls and injured 10 others.

The alleged assailant, a 17-year-old boy, was falsely accused of being a “Muslim immigrant” and an asylum-seeker who arrived in the UK by boat.
