Lillian Lightbourn to host modelling workshop
Professional model and former Miss Bermuda Lillian Lightbourn is on the island to lend a helping hand to anyone wishing to pursue a career in modelling.
Ms Lightbourn is hosting a workshop tomorrow and will be using her new skills in photography to capture images of participants in their best light while giving them advice on entering the industry.
The New York-based model, who has appeared in advertising campaigns for high-profile brands including Nike, Sephora, Elle and Maybelline, said she hopes to help people avoid common pitfalls and make the most of the opportunities.
She told The Royal Gazette: “I’ve done a workshop in New York City and this is the first one I have done in Bermuda.
“It is for aspiring models or models in the industry who need new digitals that can be sent to clients and submitted to agencies.
“I have started doing photography and have an eye for what is needed to make you look your best as I have been doing this for so long.
“I will be offering advice as well such as avoiding doing a bunch of shoots with random photographers. You can pick up bad habits from photographers like poses that might not be flattering for you and it does more bad than good.
“I will offer advice about submitting to agencies, leading them to the best websites and agencies to go to.”
Ms Lightbourn left Bermuda to pursue a modelling career in New York in 2010 and has spent time in numerous countries including Britain and parts of Europe.
She recently decided to give herself a little breathing space from the relentless pace of modelling, and picked up the camera with a view to helping others enter the industry.
She has been working with a New York agency, Principal Thing.
“I’ve been spending a lot of my time working on myself to sign with new agencies,” she said.
“I gave myself time to slow down and pivot into photography, helping others get into modelling. I still love modelling, I’m still doing it but I’ve been putting a lot of effort into studying photography.
“It looks different for everyone. You have to define what success looks like for you, and stick with that.”
