Interns get hands-on experience at Allied World
Interns at a Bermuda insurer have had an “invaluable hands-on experience” with the firm and a chance to get a “comprehensive understanding of the insurance industry” this summer.
Allied World Bermuda held a nine-week summer internship programme from June 10 to August 9 with three talented Bermudian students selected from a competitive field of candidates.
The interns were Sari Smith from the Bermuda College and the University of Exeter; Joshua Thorne from the University of South Florida and University of Tampa; and Hannah Deacon from the University of Nottingham.
Colm Singleton, EVP, Head of Bermuda and Global Markets Claims Group, said: “Allied World believes in mentoring the next generation of local insurance professionals.
“Bermuda has very bright students who are passionate about entering the insurance or reinsurance industry.
“As a Bermuda-based carrier with 120 Bermudian employees, we are proud to continue this annual summer internship programme and hire Bermudians.”
Mr Thorne said: “Allied World’s internship has been an incredible experience. The opportunity to gain exposure in the numerous departments in which the company operates has given me a more comprehensive understanding of the insurance industry and given me a better idea of what direction I would like to follow for my future career.”
Ms Smith added: “Allied World’s internship programme provided me with invaluable hands-on experience in the reinsurance industry, particularly in underwriting.
“I gained a comprehensive view of both the underwriting process and the behind-the-scenes operations that are crucial to the industry.
“This internship has been an incredibly rewarding experience and I highly recommend the Allied World summer internship to anyone looking to break into the reinsurance field and gain a deeper understanding of the industry.”
