Upgrades at Spurling Hill got off to a productive start when the six-week restoration project began over the weekend.

The Corporation of Hamilton began work on Saturday at the junction.

The project includes channelling electrical wires and improving traffic lights, altering the sidewalk and adding a new pedestrian crossing.

A city spokeswoman said: “We are pleased to report that construction works are progressing well and according to our scheduled timeline.

“As the project advances, we kindly urge the public to observe all traffic signs and stop lights within the construction area. This is essential to ensure public safety.

“The public’s co-operation is greatly appreciated as we work towards completing the project efficiently and safely.”

Signs have been placed to direct the flow of traffic as construction continues.

Car parking bays along the east side of Court Street, between Church Street and Reid Street, have also been converted into a temporary bus stop.

Motorists were urged to follow traffic signs and observe caution while driving through the area.
