Nathan Trott continues to shine in European football

Uncontrollable joy: Nathan Trott celebrates Copenhagen’s victory (Photograph courtesy of FC Copenhagen)

Nathan Trott was the hero for Copenhagen with a save in the shoot-out as the Danish side beat the Czech Republic’s Banik Ostrava 2-1 on penalties yesterday to advance to the Europa Conference League play-off.

Copenhagen will face Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, with the first leg to be played next Thursday in Denmark.

With Copenhagen having won last week’s first leg 1-0 away, the two-legged tie ended 1-1 after Erik Prekop slotted past the Bermudian in the 42nd minute, for the contest to be decided by extra time and then penalties.

Trott, appearing in a European match only for the second time, started off the shoot-out by saving Jiri Klíma’s effort.

Ewerton Paixão da Silva missed his penalty before Filip Kubala beat the former West Ham man from 12 yards. The Bermudian’s imposing frame in between the poles saw Michal Frydrych and Matej Chalus blaze their efforts over the bar.

In a video posted by Copenhagen on X after the match, the 25-year-old said: “Hey guys, massive game, massive win, it’s lovely to win the shoot-out in such a tough game.

“We’re going to return home now, thank you guys for supporting, see you guys soon.”
