Camp gives young people business skills
Young people learnt about the basics of running their own business during the Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative’s latest BizCamp.
The top presentation was given by My-AH Outerbridge on her concept of henna body painting focused on bridal parties and other special occasions.
Second place went to Jaaziah Astwood who plans to become a leader in designing and producing football team kits.
Daeguan Dixon’s mobile phone repair business, Bermuda Device Doctors, took third place.
The 12 business ideas presented at the camp also included fishing gear and coffee shops.
Organiser Joe Mahoney said: “For five days, participants learnt about opportunity recognition, cost of goods, pricing, marketing and many other aspects of running a company.
“After learning the concepts, they created and presented their own business plan using a PowerPoint template.”
Mr Mahoney thanked the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation and the Centennial Foundation for helping to provide the training free of charge.
The camp took place earlier this month, and since 2002, the YEI has presented certificates to more than 1,200 Bermudians aged 13 to 18.
