Ernesto puts clinic’s MRI machine out of action
Hurricane Ernesto may have caused only minor damage when it passed over the island almost two weeks ago, but it has claimed one victim.
An extended power outage at Bermuda Healthcare Services in Paget meant that the private practice’s MRI machine is out of action.
Ewart Brown, the chairman of BHCS, said: "The extended power outage led to a significant drop in the helium levels required to operate the MRI machine.
“As a result, we have been compelled to import helium from the United States to restore the machine to full operational capacity.
"We understand the critical role MRI services play in patient care, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this temporary disruption may cause.
“Please be assured that this measure is necessary to maintain the high standard of diagnostic services BHCS is committed to providing.
“We will promptly notify the public as soon as MRI services are restored at BHCS in Paget. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time."
A clinic representative confirmed that the equipment will not be up and running for at least another week.
