An epidemiologist who helped chart Bermuda’s path out of the Covid-19 pandemic will be the keynote speaker at a gala for medical doctors.

Carika Weldon will take the podium at Docs for Dinner, hosted by Bermuda Healthcare Services and the Brown-Darrell Clinic.

Ewart Brown, the founder and chairman of Bermuda Healthcare Services, said: “Dr Weldon is truly one of the best and brightest scientists not just in Bermuda, but globally.

“Her dedication to advancing scientific research and her pivotal role in Bermuda’s Covid-19 response are testaments to her extraordinary talent and commitment to the betterment of humanity.”

Dr Weldon, a Bermudian-born biochemist, gained international attention after she started her genomics company, making her the first and only Black woman to do so.

Dr Weldon will spend the dinner breaking down her work in genomics and where she sees the future of healthcare going.

The event will take place on September 19 at Blu Bar & Grill in Warwick.

Seating is limited and attendees are encouraged to RSVP as soon as possible.

• Those who wish to RSVP can e-mail dfdcommunications@bhcs.bm or call 737-7007.
