A recent golf tournament raised $7,000 to help a young student attend Somersfield Academy.

Betta Dais, a group aimed at creating social development opportunities run by Somersfield alumni, hosted the event to support a bursary for Shiloh Stevens, a promising student transitioning into the school.

Nineteen teams took part in the tournament, which was held at the Five Forts Golf Club.

Jai Burgess, who organised the fundraiser, said: “The school had a big impact in making me who I am and I would like to contribute to helping them continue to make a positive impact on young Bermudians.”

Alison Kempe, the head of admissions at Somersfield, added that the school was pleased to welcome Shiloh.

“His strong academic and athletic background makes him a great fit for our school,” she said.

“The support from our alumni through the Betta Dais Golf Fundraiser is making this possible and we’re grateful for their commitment.”

Marquis Burgess, who has committed to mentoring Shiloh, said: “As an alumnus of Somersfield Academy, I am encouraged to ‘give back’ in this manner because I believe in the positive impact Somersfield Academy will have on a young Bermudian of colour – especially in his formative education.”
