Twenty-two Bermudians were awarded certificates by the Economic Development Department last week after they graduated from the fintech education programme.

The graduates received their certificates at an award reception on August 29, a government spokesman said.

The programme, which was designed to equip Bermudians with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the fintech industry, has increased in popularity, doubling the number of participants, the spokesman said.

The participants completed three key areas of study to complete the programme which was coordinated by the EDD in collaboration with the Department of Workforce Development and industry leaders.

They included two courses offered by the Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship as well as 12 self-paced courses offered by the DWD.

“Participants engaged with industry leaders and executives from local tech and fintech companies, gaining invaluable insights and building professional connections,” the spokesman said.

David Burt, the Premier, highlighted the importance of the programme at the graduation.

He said: “Bermuda is recognised as a world-leading jurisdiction in providing regulatory clarity to digital finance.

“As this sector expands, Bermudians must be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to seize these opportunities.”

Jeff Lewis, a graduate, said the programme represented “a cutting-edge” learning experience which he noted was thoughtfully designed and well managed.

Vincent Darrell, another graduate, said: “As an entrepreneur, staying informed about the evolving fintech landscape in Bermuda is crucial. This programme has been eye-opening.”

Maryem Biadillah, acting director of the EDD, congratulated the cohort and acknowledged the partners who contributed to the programme's success.

She said: “I look forward to seeing how you will contribute to Bermuda's future.

She added: “Our many partners have been instrumental in making this programme as valuable as it has been.”

Tram-Anh Nguyen, cofounder of CFTE, congratulated the students.

She said: “These courses have equipped them with the skills and knowledge to excel in the fast-evolving financial sector, covering the latest trends in finance, technology, fintech, and regtech.

“I'm pleased they are now ready to begin their fintech journey and join a global community of practitioners.”

She thanked the EDD for partnering with the CFTE and the department’s commitment to empowering Bermudians in the fintech sector.
