Dear Sir,

Your “Opinion” writer in the September 3 edition of The Royal Gazette should go back a little further in time.

The biggest problem Bermuda has, is the national debt, which increases each year. I would remind your correspondent, in 1998 there was a surplus of $1.2 million and now there is a deficit of $3.5 billion plus. Does this show fiscal responsibility?

Unfortunately, politicians make statements which are not fact-checked. Walter Roban, the Deputy Premier, was quoted in your paper as saying our seniors do not have to pay land tax on their primary residence. I wonder why, this past week, I received a tax demand!

Some of us have memories that are in excess of a day or two.
