Upcoming events cancelled after AC failure at theatre
A broken air-conditioning unit has led to the cancellation of all upcoming events scheduled for the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall.
The unit suffered an unexpected failure earlier this month.
The landmark theatre, which seats nearly 380 patrons, is typically in demand for Christmas productions but is in use throughout the year.
The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Bermuda’s Magic of the Musicals 2 had previously been confirmed there for next month.
The venue also hosts pantomimes, dance recitals, comedy shows, theatrical productions, award galas, film festivals, corporate meetings and lectures.
“We are currently awaiting replacement parts, which are not anticipated to arrive on-island until December,” a Corporation of Hamilton spokeswoman said yesterday.
“This unfortunate situation was unforeseen and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to our valued clients,” she added.
The corporation’s city venue and rentals co-ordinator has reached out to all clients with bookings scheduled for 2024.
“We can confirm that this issue is isolated to the theatre; the art galleries and other offices within City Hall remain fully operational and unaffected,” the spokeswoman said.
“We appreciate the public’s understanding and patience as we work to resolve the matter to ensure the comfort, health and safety of all theatregoers and clients,” she added.
