Paraguay arrive for Pan Am Hockey Challenge
Paraguay became the first foreign team to arrive in Bermuda for the Women's Pan American Challenge when they landed on Tuesday.
The South Americans are scheduled to conduct their first training session on Thursday morning, which will give Pablo Mendoza’s side their first chance to have a feel of the artificial surface at the National Sports Centre, where they are set to play Bermuda on Saturday, the first day of the five-team tournament.
Guyana landed on Wednesday, with Brazil, their opponents on the opening day expected to arrive on Thursday. Mexico, who start their campaign in the tournament against Bermuda on Sunday, will be the last to make it to these shores on Friday.
The Mexicans, who were at last year’s Pan Am Games in Chile after winning gold at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Dominican Republic, are the highest-ranked team in the competition at 36th in the world. They are followed by Paraguay in 47th while Brazil are 55th. Guyana occupy 68th position and Bermuda are 70th.
Mexico will be favourites to secure one of the two spots up for grabs for the 2027 Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru.
