Government to sponsor screening of Shark Country

The island’s dwindling shark population and its knock-on impact on Bermuda’s marine life is to be spotlighted with a free documentary at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute next week.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is sponsoring the screening of Shark Country in Tradewinds Auditorium on October 1.

A spokesman explained: “As part of efforts to raise awareness about marine life conservation, this screening will focus on sharks and their importance to Bermuda's delicate ocean ecosystems.”

Shark Country features renowned local diver Teddy Tucker and fishermen discussing the disappearance of sharks in Bermuda’s waters, and the deterioration of the island’s overall marine environment.

The spokesman added: “Everyone is encouraged to join us for an evening of education, exploration and entertainment as we explore the history of sharks in Bermuda's waters and their vital contribution to our environment.”

• People can register for the presentation, which will begin at 7pm and have 148 available seats, by visitingbit.ly/4djzoT8
