Police launch probe after gun is accidentally discharged

Police have launched an investigation after an armed officer accidentally discharged his weapon.

The incident took place during a weapons check on Sunday, September 15.

A police spokesman said: “There were no injuries or damage to property during the incident.

“This matter is currently being investigated by a BPS firearms instructor to establish the circumstances involved.

“Notwithstanding the investigation, a review of the already stringent BPS protocols governing firearms safety has now commenced.

“Given the ongoing investigation into this matter, no further information will be provided at this time.”
