Police appealed for witnesses today after a reported armed robbery at Mr Chicken in Devonshire.

Officers responded to the report at about 10pm on Friday.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said: “On arrival, officers were informed that a man had forced his way into the establishment through a back door and brandished a knife before removing a drawer containing a quantity of cash from the register.”

A male cashier told The Royal Gazette that he was in the restaurant along with a packer when the incident happened and that there were two cooks in the back.

He said: “A guy showed up in the back holding a bag, he had on a black helmet with the visor down, a black puffer jacket and black shoes.

“He didn’t say anything he just tried to push me away from the register. I asked, what are you doing?

“He pulled out a pocket knife and cornered me in the back. He went to the register and took out the entire till.”

The cashier added: “We were all fine. It is more upsetting, we were trying to have a peaceful night.”

The BPS spokesman said that the suspect left on a black motorcycle and was last seen at the junction of Upland Street and Middle Road, where he made a right turn and headed east.

The suspect was described as a slim dark-skinned male, about 6ft 4in tall. He wore dark clothing as well as the black helmet with a dark visor.

An investigation is under way.

Anyone with information or who may have been in the area of Watlington Road East, Upland Street or Middle Road, Devonshire, between 9.30pm and 10.30pm on Friday, and saw anything suspicious, was asked to call Detective Constable Zaakira Lee, of the Criminal Investigations Unit, on 515-2551 or e-mail zlee@bps.bm.
