Motorists fined for careless driving

Two drivers involved in separate road collisions were fined in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Ronesha Christopher, 43, from Pembroke, and Kevin Caines, 64, from Sandys, each admitted driving without due care and attention when they appeared in court.

The court heard that Christopher drove into a path of a motorcyclist after pulling out of a Pembroke driveway in April.

This caused the motorcyclist to swerve out on to a sidewalk, where the rider was injured.

Christopher also admitted not stopping after the collision — but the court was told she turned herself in at Hamilton Police Station on the day of the incident.

The court also heard that Caines was driving west on Middle Road in July when he collided with a vehicle in the opposite lane. Another driver had to take evasive action during the incident.

Both victims were injured and Caines was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where he passed a breath test.

Magistrate Maria Sofianos fined Caines $900 and Christopher $1,000, and added eight points to their licences.
