East End Primary ‘steps up to the plate’ for seniors

A school that pitched in for East End seniors has won appreciation and thanks from the Royal Artillery Association.

The St George’s charity said the faculty of East End Primary School “stepped up to the plate” for its seniors activity club while the RAA building got a makeover in April.

The “major renovations” at the Grenadier Lane building, which included electrical and plumbing restoration, left its seniors group in need of a place to hold its monthly meetings.

Derek C.A. Simmons, the president of the RAA seniors activity club, said the school generously offered them “somewhere close and timely” to gather.

He gave a cheque and plaque to Julie Foggo, the school principal, at the club’s first president’s appreciation awards ceremony for service on October 3.

Mr Simmons added: “We as a club must honour this school with a token of our appreciation.”

Ms Foggo told the club it was welcome to use the school at any time when classes were not in.

The seniors club meets from noon to 3pm on the first Thursday of the month.
