Leroy Lewis Jr called up by Bermuda for matches against Dominica
Hamilton Parish winger Leroy Lewis Jr has been added to Bermuda’s squad for the upcoming Concacaf Nations League matches against Dominica.
Lewis, 20, who scored five goals in the Dudley Eve Trophy preliminary round, was called up because Kane Crichlow and Keziah Martin are required by their clubs in England to play in the Emirates FA Cup fourth qualifying round on Saturday — and will not link up with the national squad until Sunday.
Martin’s Rushall Olympic face Peterborough at Dales Lane, while Crichlow, scorer of goals against Dominican Republic and Antigua & Barbuda in the last round of Nations League matches, will be part of Chelmsford City’s side when they take on Barnet at The Hive Stadium.
The pair will miss Bermuda’s fixture against Dominica at Flora Duffy Stadium on Saturday and, barring any injuries picked from the club matches, should be available to face the same opponents on Tuesday.
Coach Michael Findlay is sympathetic to Martin and Crichlow’s predicament, emphasising the need to back the players for the sake of their career growth.
“This is an unfortunate scheduling conflict and the BFA and the senior national teams programmes wish to continue to support all our players at times in their professional development, which at the end of the day also benefits Bermuda,’’ Findlay said.
“We look forward to them joining up with the squad this weekend. This has also provided the senior men’s national team to continue to engage and provide national team opportunities for our domestic-based players.
“We are pleased to have Leroy Lewis join us and look forward to being able to evaluate his potential and performance within the camp.”
