Three Bermudian pupils have joined the legal trainee programme in the Bermuda office of Appleby.

Skye Burrows, Mya Gibbons and Akira McDonald will participate in the two-year programme, which provides pupils with training across the firm’s corporate, dispute resolution and insurance departments.

The programme involves three four-month seats in the first year and one 12-month seat in the second year.

Pupils are assigned a senior attorney as a mentor as they rotate seats.

After completing three seats in the first year, trainees are called to the Bermuda Bar.

As the three pupils start their first year of training, associates Milaun Perott and Ryley Tannock have moved to their final year of the firm’s trainee programme.

Brad Adderley, Appleby’s managing partner in Bermuda, said: “We are pleased to welcome Skye, Mya and Akira to our trainee programme, which has laid a strong foundation for countless successful legal careers in Bermuda, including mine more than two decades ago.

“I am confident that with the dedicated mentorship and guidance Skye, Mya and Akira will receive, they will be well prepared for a successful career in law. I wish them all the best as they embark on this exciting journey.”

Ms Burrows received the Appleby Legal Education Bursary in 2020. She completed both the Legal Practice Course and Master of Laws in Professional Legal Practice at The University of Law. Prior to that, she obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LLB — Honours) from the University of Buckingham.

Ms Gibbons has been a paralegal with Appleby since 2023, and interned with the firm’s corporate service provider, Appleby Global Services. She holds a postgraduate diploma in Professional Legal Practice and Master of Science in Law, Business and Management from The University of Law, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Birmingham.

Ms McDonald, who interned with the firm from 2015 to 2018 and worked as a paralegal in 2016, holds an LPC and LLM from The University of Law, and an LLB from Middlesex University. She is joining the firm from the Bermuda Monetary Authority, where she most recently worked as an analyst.
