BOA to honour women in sport with awards ceremony

Special moment: Donna Raynor alongside Julien Alfred, of St Lucia, at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow,

Women involved in sport will be honoured by the Bermuda Olympic Association next month.

Organised by the BOA’s Gender Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the event from November 8 to 10, will acknowledge, honour and promote women in sport, including athletes, coaches, officials and administrators.

The programme kicks off on November 8 with a Girls in Sports symposium focusing on the retention of girls in sports, facilitated with a panel discussion from a selection of Bermuda’s top female athletes.

The panellists will offer their expertise and words of encouragement to support the current younger generation of female athletes between the ages of 11 and 17 years old.

On November 10, the inaugural Women in Sport Leadership Awards will take place at the Bermuda Underwater Institute.

The awards are designed to acknowledge the women behind the scenes who serve on Bermuda’s National and International Sport Governing Bodies as administrators, officials or board members.

The recipients of these awards are considered the backbone of their sport organisations and have made significant contributions to the development of sport.

The BOA will be honouring 12 outstanding women in the community who have exemplified exceptional leadership in sport. They will be presented with the WISL Award on the recommendation and selection by their National Governing Sports Body and the Gender Diversity & Inclusion Committee.

This black-tie event will include a cocktail hour as well as entertainment. Tickets are available for purchase via bdatix.com at the price of $25.
