Digicel recognised for work with blind children
Digicel has once again been shortlisted at the World Communications Awards – this time in the social contribution category for the Digicel Jamaica Foundation’s work to assist the blind community.
WCA was launched in 1999 to showcase and celebrate innovation and excellence throughout the global telecoms industry.
Digicel has donated 107 Braille machines and three embossers to the Salvation Army School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in St Andrew, Jamaica. The school only had 26 working machines to serve 130 students when Digicel first made contact with them. In addition, training was also provided to ensure the machines were well maintained and lasted into the future.
Digicel Group chief executive Marcelo Cataldo, said: “This incredible campaign truly showcases the power of partnership.”
Last year Digicel won in the best operator in an emerging market category for its work in Haiti.
The winners will be announced at a black-tie ceremony and gala dinner at the Marriott Grosvenor Square in London on December 10.
