Bermuda’s quest to qualify for the Fifa Under-17 World Cup next year has received a massive boost with the island to host one of the groups for the Concacaf qualifiers.

The island was selected together with Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Panama as the venues. Matches are scheduled for February 7 to 16, with winners of the eight groups securing a spot in Qatar.

“The BFA is honoured to have been chosen to host this significant event,” the association said.

“We are committed to providing a world-class experience for all participating teams and fans. Hosting the qualifiers will not only showcase Bermuda’s footballing talent but also contribute to the growth of the sport in the region and inspire young athletes.”

Bermuda, coached by Aaron Lugo, are in pot 2 along with El Salvador, Cuba, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, Nicaragua and Dominican Republic.

“On behalf of the Under-17 players and staff, we are excited for the opportunity to play in front of our home crowd,” Lugo said.

The draw, which will be held on Thursday in Miami at noon Bermuda time, will be broadcast on Concacaf’s YouTube channel.
