Tiny T drops Gombey-themed line for festival
This weekend’s Bermuda Gombey Festival is to be celebrated with a line of Gombey art-themed products by entrepreneur Demeka Tacklyn, also known as Tiny T.
She will unveil the full line during the annual celebration at the Botanical Gardens, but she said some products are already available at her Court Street store, Street Vybez.
“I’m happy to be apart of the Gombey Festival, a part of the culture, the legacy, the tradition, in every way shape and form.
“I’m in my forties now and I have to look back. I danced [with the Gombeys] starting at ten years old, right up to my late thirties.
“I put the energy on this earth, stomping the ground. I was dancing with my nephews, who are all about my age. We grew up together. They basically raised me with my uncle George [Richardson], who passed this year. I danced for his troupe, Richardson’s Gombeys.”
Ms Tacklyn said she was very motivated this year to generate products that were Gombey-themed, as she reflected on her time with the dance troupe.
The line includes keychains, wallets for men and women, handbags, travel bags, duffel bags and bags for children. There will also be T-shirts for sale.
Ms Tacklyn said she was happy to see more energy concentrated on Bermuda’s Gombey history and culture.
