The ribbon was cut to applause yesterday for Dockyard’s new cruise ship terminal at King’s Wharf.

Lieutenant-Colonel David Burch, the Minister of Public Works, said it marked the close of a journey that began five years ago in 2014.

He said the deck and terminal were replaced in a method that had “never been done in Bermuda before”, using precast concrete beams and slabs.

Lieutenant-Colonel Burch added that the costs were originally estimated at $20 million — but the job was done for about $15 million.

The minister praised Carmen Trott, a Bermudian civil engineer, with Carmen Tucket, the port facilities manager, for leading the project.
