Jai Bean scores twice as North Village extend winning run
Hamilton Parish 0 North Village 5
Jai Bean, who made a huge impact for Bermuda in recent Concacaf Nations League matches, continued his goalscoring form as he struck twice to help North Village extend their winning streak to three games.
Bean scored in the 50th minute and in added time at the end of the match to supplement goals from Jonté Smith, Seke Spence and an own goal from Mauriq Hill as Village ran out easy winners.
Village started brightly at Wellington Oval, with London Steede-Jackson latching on to a through ball by the effervescent Smith before failing to capitalise on his chance as goalkeeper Jordan Burgess made himself big to smother the low attempt.
The away side continued to probe and forced Parish to chase shadows as they controlled possession, but the tempo of their passing was often too slow and lethargic, which allowed Parish to set up into two blocks of four and properly defend any forward passes they faced.
As soon as they sped up their play, which was far too infrequent in the first half, Village were able to get in behind their opponents at will. Smith was the orchestrator whenever Village broke the midfield lines and he played the incisive pass that led to their next clear scoring opportunity, but Steede again failed to beat Burgess, who parried the ball wide at his near post.
Parish slowly got going as former Village attacker Justin Bell started to pull the strings and pick up space as the half wore on, and he fed Leroy Lewis Jr to drive into space and pass inside for Aaron Nelson to strike an effort wide of the near post from the edge of the box.
Just as it looked as if the game would be scoreless at half-time, Village opened the scoring with Liam Evans getting the ball forward quickly to Spence, who laid off for Smith to strike a daisy-cutter inside the near post, with goalkeeper Burgess anticipating the effort would drift wide.
Parish started the second half with attacking intent as they searched for an equaliser and they immediately forced Detre Bell into a smart save from a side-footed effort by Justin Bell as he tried to lead the recovery against his former team.
However, Village made Parish pay for being wasteful when Smith found Bean, who drove into space and fired into the far corner past Burgess.
Village extended their lead to three in controversial fashion just after the hour as Bean tussled with Parish captain Mauriq Hill, who prodded the ball into his own net. Parish supporters were begging for a foul, but referee Kwinsi Williams, from Trinidad, allowed the goal to stand.
Seke Spence then netted his first career Premier Division goal five minutes before the end. The youngster pounced on a terrible mistake by goalkeeper Burgess, who threw the ball straight to Village’s Tre Manders. He made the pass to Spence, who took his touch in stride and whipped in a beautiful finish.
Bean continued his excellent form with his second goal of the day just before the end.
