Wolves fight back from three down to snatch draw against Devonshire Colts
In the first of Sunday’s double header at Devonshire Rec, Wolves produced a fine comeback to recover from being 3-0 down at half time to secure a draw against Devonshire Colts.
Colts flew out of the blocks, scoring twice inside the opening five minutes through Keino Burch and Sage Blair-Paynter. They added a third through Daniel Ball from close range midway through the half to put themselves in a commanding position.
Wolves did not fold, though, and rattled the Colts crossbar with a header from Kyle Brangman just before the end of the half, sending a warning to Colts of what was to come after the break.
Marcelos Thomas’s half-time team-talk fired up a renewed Wolves, who showed far greater hunger and fight after the restart.
Their perseverance paid off when Khiari Sharrieff-Hayward capitalised on a misunderstanding between Colts goalkeeper Jaden Mills-Furbert and Jaquari Paynter to squeeze a shot in at the near post to reduce the deficit to 3-1.
Poor positioning from the Colts keeper allowed Khari Sharrieff to squeeze the ball into the bottom left corner to cut Colts’ lead further and Lamelle Paynter scored the equaliser two minutes from time after Mills-Furbert pushed a corner into his path.
Colts still pushed for a late winner but goalkeeper Gatwoine Minors produced three key stops in the dying minutes to secure a valuable point for Wolves.
In the other Premier Division game on Sunday, St George’s drew with Paget 2-2.
