Two suspects arrested over weekend stabbing death

Police announced yesterday that two arrests had been made in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old boy at the weekend.

Ethan Arruda died in the early hours of Sunday after being stabbed in the chest while attending a party at a home on Devonshire Bay Road, Devonshire.

Residents met last night, not far from the scene of the incident, for an open-air meeting to discuss security in the area.

The gathering was also held as a show of respect and condolence for the victim’s family.

It came after a police spokesman confirmed that “two male suspects have been arrested” in connection with the incident.

The spokesman said: “We wish to thank those members of the public who have so far come forward and provided information to assist with the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Arruda.

“However, as stated, there were around 100 people at the party Mr Arruda reportedly attended, and we continue to appeal for anyone with information to get in contact with Detective Inspector Clifford Roberts by calling 717-0590 or via e-mail at croberts2@bps.bm.

“We are also once again urging anyone who may have in their possession recorded video or any other images from that party to please get in contact with us.”

Witnesses can also call the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers number, 800-8477, or use the BPS community reporting portal at portal.police.bm.

A neighbours’ meeting last night, attended by Christopher Famous, the area MP, heard general security concerns over “some spaces being misused — particularly the beach and the park”, a resident said.

Despite signage added alongside Mary Prince Emancipation Park advising visitors to be mindful because it adjoins a residential area, neighbours said the popular hangout could be plagued at night by loud music, open drug use and occasional fights.

Residents asked Mr Famous to petition for the addition of security cameras near the park entrance, as well as a parking area at a roadside corner by the beach.
