The Government is looking to carry out repairs to the Mangrove Bay Wharf and the Ports Island jetty, according to requests for proposals.

The first RFP, published on the government procurement website, sought qualified and experienced contractors to fix damaged concrete and steps at the Mangrove Bay Wharf in Sandys.

Photographs included in the bundle showed large cracks on the surface of the wharf, along with plants growing out of damaged steps at the site.

Documents in the RFP package said that the selected contractor would be required to undertake structural repairs and reconstruction of the wharf walls and rebuild the public access stairs.

The RFP also required that the work be carried out in stages so that half of the wharf remains open and accessible throughout the duration of the project.

An optional site visit for prospective bidders is scheduled to take place today, and all submissions must be received by 3pm on November 14.

A second RFP sought contractors to carry out concrete repairs to the community jetty at Ports Island.

Documents included with the RFP said the project would also involve undermining repairs, with the contractor to infill the undermined section of the deck with mass concrete.

“The length of undermining is below water level during all levels of tide,” the RFP said. “It is to the contractor's discretion on method of underwater concrete construction and should be clearly described within their method statement.

“Safety precautions to avoid spilling of concrete into the surrounding water should be clearly detailed.”

A non-mandatory site visit will take place today, with any submissions due by 3pm on November 28.

The Government also put out an RFP for repairs to the Dock Hill swimming facility, located off North Shore Road just west of the Devonshire Dock.

The works include reconstructing a collapsed retaining wall at the site, resurfacing the dock and installation of handrails and a life ring.

The RFP also asked contractors to propose a price to install a new diving board, noting that a diving board had previously existed at the site, but said the Government “may or may not” choose to include the diving board in the project.

A non-mandatory site visit is scheduled to take place on Sunday, with the deadline for submissions set to be 3pm on November 13.

Lieutenant-Colonel David Burch, the Minister of Public Works, said this month that about $400,000 would fund public dock repairs at Mangrove Bay, Ports Island, the Dock Hill swimming facility and the prison farm jetty after the Government’s Midyear Budget Review.
