Minister speaks at Caribbean forum
A government minister travelled this week to Barbados, where she would speak at a forum addressing climate-related risks, socio-economic uncertainties and the need for inclusive social policies.
Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, attended the XVI Ministerial Development Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The theme for this year’s forum is “Resilience in Action: Social Policies to Navigate Uncertainty in Latin America and the Caribbean”, with a focus on bolstering resilience and human development amid the region’s challenges.
The minister was due to speak at one of the event’s roundtables this afternoon, looking at adaptive social protection systems for vulnerable populations.
A government statement said that her address would emphasise “ensuring that vulnerable populations have adequate access to financial resources”.
It added that in addition to advocating for sustainable social financing, Ms Furbert also planned to explore how technology can enhance the delivery of social services.
The forum began yesterday and finishes tomorrow.
