Courtois and Ostling to face off in Women’s Match racing Regatta final
Pauline Courtois and Anna Ostling reached the final of the Aspen Women’s Match Racing Regatta in contrasting fashion in Hamilton Harbour on Friday.
Frenchwoman Courtois romped to a convincing 3-0 win over Denmark’s Kristine Mauritzen in a lopsided semi-final while Swede Ostling endured a tougher outing in a narrow 3-2 win over Mauritzen’s compatriot, Lea Vogelius, in the remaining semi-final match.
Mauritzen pulled off a major upset after ousting the heavily favoured Julia Aartsen, of the Netherlands, in the quarter-final 24 hours earlier but was unable to rediscover the magic against Courtois who virtually had things her own way in the light breeze.
Ostling, last year’s Women’s World Match Racing Tour champion, found herself on the brink of elimination after trailing Vogelius 2-1 but managed to find an extra gear and win the next two races to seal the deal.
Mauritzen and Vogelius will now attempt to bounce back and end their campaigns on a brighter note when they square off in the Petite final.
