Two senior US insurance regulatory leaders and the chief executive officer of the UK government-backed terrorism reinsurer will be keynote speakers at a 25th anniversary leadership forum hosted by the Association of Bermuda Insurers & Reinsurers next month.

David Altmaier, Florida Insurance commissioner, Mike Consedine, CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and former insurance commissioner of Pennsylvania, and Julian Enoizi, CEO of Pool Re, will address the July 10 event at Rosewood Bermuda.

Mr Altmaier will give his perspective on the critical Florida market. The NAIC’s Mr Consedine will speak on US and international insurance regulatory issues, while Mr Enoizi’s will focus on work being done by Pool Re, the British mutual reinsurer established in 1993 as a public-private partnership.

The keynotes will joined by David Burt, the Premier, Sir John Swan, who was Premier when Abir was formed, and nearly 20 leading representatives of Bermuda’s insurance market who are set to debate the state of the industry, the island’s impact over the past quarter century, and major trends affecting risk management around the world.

The afternoon includes three panel debates focused around major industry themes: the first panel, “What the Future Holds — Leadership Visions,” is moderated by Mark Geoghegan, managing director of Insurance Insider. It features as panellists Pina Albo, CEO of Hamilton Insurance Group; Albert Benchimol, president and CEO of Axis Capital; Jeremy Cox, CEO of the Bermuda Monetary Authority; Dinos Iordanou, chairman of Arch Capital; and the aforementioned Mr O’Donnell.

The second panel focuses on “Lessons Learned from the Pioneers,” and will be moderated by independent director Caroline Foulger, former chairwoman of the Bermuda Business Development Agency. Panellists are: Michael Butt, former CEO of UK and Bermuda insurers, and chairman of Axis Capital; Stephen Catlin, founder of Catlin Group, and chairman of the Insurance Development Forum; Don Kramer, serial reinsurer founder and chairman of ILS Capital Management; Fiona Luck, career insurance executive and director of Lloyds Franchise Board; and Brian O’Hara, a career reinsurance underwriter, and founding CEO of XL Group.

The final panel, “Disrupting Risk — Natural Disasters, Cyber, Terrorism,” features as moderator Steve Weinstein, who holds a number of roles at RenaissanceRe, including senior vice-president, chief compliance officer, and Group General Counsel. Panellists are: Bryon Ehrhart, global head of strategic growth and development at Aon; Kathleen Faries, head of Bermuda, Tokio Millennium Re; Mark Guishard, director of corporate and community relations at Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences; Lara Mowery, managing director and head of global property special at Guy Carpenter; and Representative David Santiago, vice-chairman, Florida House of Representatives, Insurance and Banking Subcommittee.
