Leniency shown for road-rage assault

A motorcycle rider who lost his temper in traffic and assaulted a taxi driver has been given a conditional discharge.

Cameron Gordon, 29, admitted causing Albert Swan bodily harm and damaging his tablet device when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court in July.

Gordon, from Warwick, reappeared in court yesterday for sentencing.

The court heard that Gordon approached Mr Swan’s taxi window after the driver made a sudden turn on Front Street in July 2023.

Gordon jumped into the passenger seat, pulled the tablet from the dashboard and threw it at Mr Swan, whose lip was cut during the incident.

Mr Swan’s victim impact statement said that he did not see Gordon riding behind him when he made the turn and that the tablet “continues to have problems” since the incident.

Magistrate Craig Attridge sentenced Gordon, who apologised for his actions, to a 12-month conditional discharge, and ordered him to pay $812.16 to Mr Swan by November 15.
