The MarketPlace has teamed up with the Lions Clubs of Bermuda to launch the annual “Share the Spirit” campaign.

The start of the campaign was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Hamilton branch of the supermarket chain yesterday.

The Lions Clubs said that over the past 36 years, it had received non-perishable goods from the community, including from schools and individuals.

It added: “Thousands of families, seniors and organisations have benefited from receiving our Christmas hampers.

“We realise this has not gotten any easier as people in our community are still struggling.”

The Lions Clubs urged residents to continue contributing to the initiative by donating non-perishable items, which can be placed in decorative bins at MarketPlace stores across the island.

It added: “The Bible reminds us that we are our brother’s keeper, please let us give a little more this year, so we can bring a little sunshine in someone’s life.”
