Legislators will convene on the Cabinet lawn today to hear the Governor outline the Government’s legislative agenda for the next year.

The formal proceedings start at 10.30am when members of the House and Senate, judiciary, Public Service executive, and other invited guests gather to hear the Speech from the Throne.

It will be the third, and last time, Rena Lalgie will read the Throne Speech — although she has been in Bermuda for four years, she missed one event after testing positive for Covid.

Convention allows the Governor to add a few reflections of their own at the end of the Throne Speech.

Last year, Ms Lalgie said: “After a series of global events which have had an impact on our economy, society and way of life over the last three years, we have frequently been reminded that Bermuda is not as isolated from the world as maps may suggest.

“We are fortunate not to be directly exposed to the horrors that we have witnessed in the Middle East in recent weeks, or in Ukraine in the last 19 months.

“The sense of growing global uncertainty is palpable and reinforces the importance of working together to encourage and nurture unity in our society.

“I am more convinced than ever that resilient, robust, transparent and accountable institutions of Government are essential to achieving our aspirations for Bermuda.”
