Youth concerns and ideas discussed at ‘dynamic’ session
Students at Bermuda College expressed an interest in expanding opportunities for the island’s youth while amplifying their voices, during a government-run event.
Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, engaged with them at the Office of Youth Affairs zone-in event yesterday.
During the “dynamic” session, the students shared the issues and challenges they face daily but expressed enthusiasm and a commitment to positive change.
Ms Furbert said of the gathering at the college: “It was truly inspiring to hear these young voices speaking so openly and bravely about the issues they face. Their perspectives remind us why youth-focused initiatives are vital.
“This generation is ready to lead, and it’s our job to support them by creating spaces where they feel heard and empowered to make a difference.”
David Sam, the president of Bermuda College, joined the session.
He extended a warm welcome and expressed encouragement for continued dialogue between the ministry and Bermuda College students.
Ms Furbert said that the Office of Youth Affairs, which helps to co-ordinate such events, was committed to addressing the core goals of the National Youth Policy.
The policy aims to empower youth to participate in their communities, develop leadership skills and find avenues for personal and professional growth.
The office centralises youth services, tailors programmes to address immediate youth concerns and reinforces child safeguarding measures to ensure young people feel safe and supported.
