Safety hazard or not? Residents call for Belco action

Residents along a narrow lane in Warwick have urged Belco to take action over what they insist is a precariously placed utility pole on their street.

Homeowners wrote to The Royal Gazette calling it “an accident waiting to happen”, and said the power company knew of the situation but had failed to address it.

They added: “They need to come around here and either remove, reposition or relocate this pole before a Cat 3 hurricane approaching from the north brings it down.”

Shelly Leman, managing director at Belco, said the company was aware of residents’ concerns but felt that the pole posed no risk.

Ms Leman added that “while the pole has been assessed and deemed safe at this time, the company is investigating the feasibility of relocating the pole”.

She said that residents with any concerns regarding Belco infrastructure should call 295-5111.
