Temporary social worker given public service award
A temporary social worker has been praised for her willingness to step in and help an ill client and their family during a time of crisis.
Donna Outerbridge, an employee with the Department of Health, was awarded the Public Service Excellence Award for October.
She became a temporary additional social worker for the department to offer support for a client and family members.
The department said that Ms Outerbridge went “above and beyond her official responsibilities” to address a medical emergency that threatened her client’s life.
It explained that her quick action made sure the client received fast and necessary medical attention.
During the ordeal, Ms Outerbridge offered emotional support to her client’s family and managed several organisations to help the individual.
She also made herself available outside of office hours to assist with the family’s needs.
Following her nomination for the PSEA, colleagues of Ms Outerbridge made note of the contributions she made while in the post.
A spokeswoman for the health department added: “Community social workers play a pivotal role in fostering the wellbeing of individuals, families and communities.
“By addressing various social issues, these professionals work to create positive change and enhance the quality of life for those they serve.
“Their responsibilities are diverse and encompass a range of activities designed to support and empower the community.”
David Burt offered his thanks as he presented the award to Ms Outerbridge on Cabinet Office grounds.
The Premier said: “Ms Outerbridge exemplifies the spirit of public service through her compassion, commitment and willingness to go the extra mile.
“Her actions demonstrate the profound difference public officers can make in the lives of individuals and families, especially during moments of crisis.
“I commend her for setting a high standard of excellence and thank her for her service to Bermuda.”
Cherie Whitter, the Head of the Public Service, also thanked Ms Outerbridge on behalf of the Public Service Executive.
She told the employee: “Public officers often work beyond regular hours due to their commitment to serving the community and your recognition reflects this dedication.
“Your efforts are very much appreciated.”
