The Premier, and other Government officials have had a busy start to their visit to London, where they are meeting with senior representatives of the new Labour Government.

In a number of messages posted on the social media site X, David Burt said the Bermuda team had held a series of positive meetings with ministers appointed after the Labour party’s victory in July’s General Election.

On Monday, Mr Burt met with other Overseas Territories leaders to prepare for the annual Joint Ministerial Council, which was held today.

He then held a bilateral meeting with Britain’s new Minister for the Overseas Territories, Stephen Doughty.

In an X post, Mr Burt said: “We discussed the process for advancing the constitutional changes related to immigration as outlined in the Government’s Throne Speech.

“I also raised the matter of the UK’s support for Bermuda’s international financial services sector that now employs a record number of Bermudians.”

In a later post, Mr Burt recounted a meeting with Tulip Siddiq, Britain’s Economic Secretary to the Treasury.

The Premier said: “During our conversation, I shared an update on Bermuda’s progress in implementing the global minimum tax agreement with the introduction of Bermuda's corporate income tax, which will result in a fairer tax system in Bermuda.

“Grateful for the opportunity to share Bermuda’s story with the new minister as the Government works to drive job creation and strengthen our economy through continued international business expansion.”

Today, Mr Burt and island insurance representatives visited Lloyd’s of London for a meeting with its chief executive officer, John Neal.

The Premier said: “Our goal was to emphasise the importance of fostering a strong, symbiotic relationship between the Bermuda market and Lloyd’s.

“It was encouraging to hear the progress on the Memorandum of Understanding between Lloyd’s and the Bermuda Monetary Authority.

“We also visited Lloyd’s Lab to gain insight into how Lloyd’s is driving insurance innovation.”

Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, Chidozie Ofoego, the Financial Secretary, and Craig Swan, the chief executive officer of the Bermuda Monetary Authority, joined the Premier on the trip to Britain as did a number of senior Civil Servants.

Rena Lalgie, the Governor, was also expected to attend some of the meetings.

Mr Burt is scheduled to return to Bermuda on Friday.
