Camiko Smith is hoping that more can be done in the aftermath of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship to help local golfers become competitive in big tournaments.

Smith was in action at the tournament last week and is hopeful that Bermudian representation in the event can open more doors for local players to compete overseas.

“I think my biggest thing with us having this event here is proper preparation for everybody as a whole,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“The ones that are playing competitive should be able to have access to more events through our association with the PGA Tour.

“We have had the PGA Tour here for five years and maybe we can figure out ways where we can get an invite into Korn Ferry Tour events or have a fund where we can play at a higher level in the States or UK, and there’s not enough funding for this.

“Even practice, just preparing for the event, we just need to come up with solutions where we can do that going forward.”

Smith missed the cut and is fresh off making his third appearance at the tournament.

“I fought pretty hard and got the outcome that was the outcome,” said the professional player, who finished three shots shy of the cut mark at one over.

“It's mildly disappointing but a lot of positives came out of it. All in all I feel great, so on to the next.”
