Ryan Outerbridge competed in the NCAA Men's Cross Country National Championship in Sacramento on Saturday.

Racing in the event for the third time, the Franklin Pierce University senior finished 187th of the 262 starters in the 10K race, crossing the line in 32min 20.2sec, improving 22 places on his 2023 finishing position and shaving a second off last year’s time.

Outerbridge was the third finisher from the NE10 Conference and the fifth finisher from the east. His finish also made him the first individual runner from the east to cross the line.

The race was won by William Amponsah of West Texas A&M University in 29:40.8, with Ryan Hartman, from Augustana University in South Dakota, and Romain Legendre, of Adams State University in Colorado completing the podium

In the build-up to the event Outerbridge spoke about his recovery from a heart attack in 2021 and the road to recovery to be able to race again.

He finished second in the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby last year behind Lamont Marshall
