Bermuda College appealed to the public today to help create its vision for future generations.

The college, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, has launched its 2025-30 strategic plan and wants input from the community.

The college president, David Sam, said the institution wanted to build on the success of its previous five-year plan “to create a strong foundation for the next chapter, with a steadfast focus on student outcomes and equity”.

Dr Sam added: “With half a century of stellar service to Bermuda’s community, we are committed to ensuring that our vision for the future continues to be shaped by the voices of those it serves.

“To achieve this, the development of the 2025-30 strategic plan will include the active participation of the college's primary stakeholders — current students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members.”

The new plan will address both immediate challenges and opportunities within higher education, positioning the college as a leader in fostering equitable and transformative educational experiences.

“Together, we can ensure that the college continues to reflect the values and needs of Bermuda’s vibrant community,” Dr Sam said.

The college said that key instruments in crafting this visionary plan will include:

Surveys: collecting diverse perspectives to understand the community’s needs and aspirations

Focus groups: hosting internal and external focus groups to explore in-depth insights from a variety of constituents, including businesses

Strategic plan committee co-chairwoman Necheeka Trott added: “We stand on the shoulders of 50 years of progress and innovation.

“This new plan will guide our next steps as an institution and for our community, shaping our trajectory for the next 50 years.

“However, we can only do this with the public’s input — particularly those that have a passion for the future of education in Bermuda.”
